The Goonies is a 1985 American adventure comedy film co-produced and directed by Richard Donner, based on a plot by executive producer Steven Spielberg and based on a screenplay by Chris Columbus. In the film, youths from Astoria, Oregon’s “Goon Docks” area try to save their homes from foreclosure by uncovering an old treasure map that leads them on a quest to recover the long-lost money of One-Eyed Willy, a legendary 17th-century pirate. They are pursued by a family of crooks who want the treasure for themselves during the expedition. Warner Bros. distributed the picture theatrically on June 7, 1985, in the United States, produced by Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment, and it has since become a cult classic.

The Goonies Cast Then and Now
One of the greatest hits of the 80s and some of the kids featured in the film have gone on to become stars. So where are all of them now, read on to find out!
In The Goonies, Josh Brolin portrays Brand, Mikey’s older brother and minder who is constantly putting him down. Brolin is undoubtedly the most well-known and successful member of The Goonies’ acting cast, having appeared in a number of critically acclaimed and commercially successful films throughout the course of his illustrious career. He played Thanos in the Marvel Comics Avengers films, and he’ll next be seen in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune revival. He’s previously been in No Country For Old Men, Men In Black 3, Sicario, True Grit, American Gangster, and Deadpool 2. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2009 for his role as Harvey White’s killer Dan White in Milk, in which he co-starred in with Sean Penn.
In The Goonies, Sean Astin played Mikey, probably the main character among the central group of kids. He went on to have successful acting, producing, and directing career in Hollywood, starring in films such as Rudy, Click, and supplying the voice of Raphael in the Nickelodeon remake of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. However, his most renowned part was as Samwise Gamgee, Frodo Baggins’ faithful companion in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy. He went on to star in the Netflix blockbuster Stranger Things, which was inspired by The Goonies.
Mouth, played by Corey Feldman in The Goonies, was named by his cheekiness. Feldman had already established himself as a kid star by the time he starred in The Goonies, having performed in films such as Stand By Me, Gremlins, and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. He became a young star after appearing in The Lost Boys, and he struggled with substance misuse during his adolescence, as well as forging a friendship with Michael Jackson. Feldman’s film career has since stalled, and he has instead focused on a music career inspired by his hero and friend Michael Jackson. He has also appeared in Moby and Katy Perry’s music videos.
In The Goonies, Jeff Cohen plays Chunk, the lovable overweight boy known for his ‘truffle shuffle.’ Cohen had a few tiny appearances in television shows including Family Ties and She’s The Sheriff after The Goonies, but he left up acting to pursue a career as a lawyer. Cohen & Gardner, LLP is currently his law firm, and he is a founding partner. He contributes to The Huffington Post on a daily basis as a respected professional, writing about business, legal, and political issues. It appears that the only thing he actually shuffles these days is legal documents.
Jonathan Ke Quan
In The Goonies, Jonathan Ke Quan plays Data, a gadgeteer and James Bond aficionado. As a child, Ke Quan’s acting career peaked when he starred opposite Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones: Temple Of Doom as Data and Short Round. He studied Taekwondo while working on Indiana Jones and went on to serve as a stunt supervisor on films including X-Men, Enigma, and The One.
Andy, Brand’s love interest in The Goonies, was played by Kerry Green, who made the yellow sports cardigan a classic wardrobe choice. Green’s big break came with The Goonies, but her film career didn’t take off. She took a break from playing after a few minor roles to study art in college and eventually formed the film production firm Independent Women Artists.
