Studio Ghibli is one of the most well-known animation studios, and the studio hardly needs any introduction. The studio has produced some of the best animated films in history, and director Hayao Miyazaki is constantly working on new projects.
Others have been busy adapting his enchanting films for a new experience while he doodles in his workshop. And now a Japanese restaurant chain has started reproducing dishes from Studio Ghibli’s anime world.
The restaurant chain is recreating Studio Ghibli dishes
According to SoraNews24, an izakaya company called Donan Norin Suisanbu in Aichi Prefecture is reproducing famous dishes from various Studio Ghibli anime films ranging from The Wind Rises to the timeless classic My Neighbor Totoro. The Ghibli Food Recreation menu will be available on October 11, 2022.
With the theme park and now Donan Norin Suisanbu’s special menu, the prefecture is on the way to becoming a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. Fans can grab a bite to eat at one of the Nagoya outlets before or after visiting the amusement park.

Eat without fear of turning into a pig
There are nine Ghibli foods to consume. Fans can try the Siberia cake from The Wind Rises and the strange dish Spirited Away’s parents eat at the restaurant that turns them into pigs. The rendition of the izakaya involves a combination of bamboo shoots, shiitake mushrooms, and ground beef. Both dishes cost 490 yen each.
Ponyo’s favorite dish, ramen with two large slices of ham and half a boiled egg, is available at the restaurant. Shitaka’s Ojiya, popularly known as congee, by Princess Mononoke is offered in a small tureen. At the same time, Satsuki’s simple yet incredible My Neighbor Totoro bento lunch box is available to try. Each of the three dishes costs 690 yen.
Howl’s Moving Castle Calcifer’s Legendary Skillet, filled with two fried eggs and two sizzling, glistening bacon rashers, costs 790 yen. Though not technically produced by Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki co-wrote and directed Lupine III: Castle of Cagliostro, which has a similar Ghibli aesthetic. Lupin’s Meatball Spaghetti Meal is also included for 990 yen. The pumpkin herring cake from Kiki’s delivery service is the most expensive at 1,490 yen.

Built as a tribute to the studio’s artists, including Miyazaki, the Studio Ghibli theme park brings to life several of the studio’s iconic works. Also, the park has been designed to be eco-friendly to minimize the impact on the natural environment. The park will open in stages, with the first including Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse, Whisper of the Heart’s Earth Shop, a reproduction of the sisters’ house from My Neighbor Totoro, and Dondoko Forest.
Also, the first phase of the Studio Ghibli theme park will open on November 1st in Aichi Prefecture.
