The film “Samrat Prithviraj” starring Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chillar gained momentum at the box office on Sunday and will end the first weekend with a collection of Rs. 40 crores. After a rather slow start on Friday with Rs. 10.70 crores, things picked up on Saturday and Sunday and Samrat Prithviraj was able to register a good first weekend at the box office despite competition from two regional releases.
According to a Box Office India report, the box office receipts of Samrat Prithviraj’s film rose by good numbers on Sunday. After 12.60 million rupees on Saturday, Sunday’s takings were 16-17 million rupees. This means that the total revenue for the first weekend will be between 39 and 40 million rupees. Akshay’s previous film this year, Bachchan Paandey, grossed Rs 37 crore in its first weekend despite the holiday. This makes “Samrat Prithviraj” the best first weekend opening of 2022.
According to the BOI, “Samrat Prithviraj” contributed the most to the box office results in the Hindi tracks, while the response in Maharashtra was somewhat weak.
Meanwhile, “Samrat Prithviraj” completely outperformed two other regional films – Vikram and Major – in the Hindi release. While “Vikram,” starring Kamal Haasan, grossed over 2 million rupees in its opening weekend, director Adivi Sesh’s “Major” grossed 5 million rupees. However, both films did well in local markets.
The Tamil version of the film Vikram grossed Rs 42 crore in its opening weekend, while Major in its original Telugu version grossed Rs 17 crore.
