The Mani Ratnam directed film Ponniyin Selvan-1 which was released some time ago did quite well at the box office in Tamil Nadu. After a slow start, the film business experienced immense growth with each passing day. PS-1 has also managed to grab audiences’ attention in overseas markets and has quickly become one of the highest-grossing Tamil releases in recent times.
Now at the end of his third straight week, Ponniyin Selvan-1 has managed to surpass the Rs. 200 kr. Mark at the box office in Tamil Nadu. In fact, the film managed to pull in a massive Rs. 209.01 cr. alone in this area. Similarly, PS-1 has garnered fairly hefty collections at the worldwide box office. Given the wide release in certain overseas markets, Ponniyin Selvan-1 has now managed to surpass Rs. 460 cr. license plate. As one of the best non-Rajinikanth stars to break into the top 5 highest Tamil big names, PS-1 has managed to rake in a staggering Rs. 464.09 cr. at the worldwide box office.
For now, Ponniyin Selvan-1 is still going strong, and with no new releases to compete with the film, it’s very likely that the PS-1 business will continue to grow. According to trade forecasts, Ponniyin Selvan-1 is sure to see a surge in collections from both domestic and overseas markets in its fourth weekend. In fact, optimistic views say the film could see its collections approach the Rs. 220 kr. Mark at the box office in Tamil Nadu while at the worldwide box office the total business of Ponniyin Selvan-1 could exceed Rs. 500 kr. Mark.
