On September 2nd the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) announced that September 16th will be the National Cinema Day in India where several cinemas would be offering tickets for as little as Rs. 75. As expected, the moviegoers cheered. After all, the average ticket price is usually above Rs. 150 or Rs. 200, especially in metro cities. As a result, the opportunity to see a film at such a cheap price excited customers, and many already had plans to fill theaters on September 16th .
Multiplexes POSTPONE National Cinema Day from September 16th to September 23rd to protect Brahmastra’s collections
However, it seems the aam junta will have to wait a little longer to take advantage of this offer. A source tells Bollywood Hungama, “The MAI has decided to postpone National Cinema Day by one week. It will now take place on Friday September 16th, Friday September 23rd.”
When asked about the reason for the move, the source replied: “Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt Brahmastra is the dominant film at the moment and is doing great. She was already strong on Monday, which proves that she will continue to do strong business on the second weekend. Disney who published Brahmastratherefore asked the multiplex association to move the celebrations forward by a week.”
The source continued, “The MAI and Multiplex teams found merit in their request. We all know that Brahmastra is a very expensive film. It needs to clock a large number daily to be a hit and the Rs. 75 could prove a damper. The multiplexes are also grateful Brahmastra because this is the film that ended the dry spell at the box office. Therefore, they all agreed to Disney’s plea. National Cinema Day is now on September 23rd Brahmastrais the third Friday.”
One industry expert noted: “BrahmastraThe ticket prices of were inflated. But the audience comes in large numbers. They will also do this on the second weekend, regardless of ticket prices, which is why it’s handy not to sell their ticket at ridiculous prices on the eighth day.”
National Cinema Day was celebrated in the USA on September 3rd. There, multiplexes offered movie tickets for as little as $3 (about Rs. 240). The United Kingdom and Middle Eastern countries also joined.
According to MAI, multiplex chains such as PVR, Inox, Cinepolis, Carnival, Miraj, City Pride, Asian, Mukta A2, Movie Time, Wave, M2K, Delite, etc. will take part in the celebrations.
“National Cinema Day brings viewers of all ages together to enjoy a day at the movies. It also celebrates the successful reopening of cinemas and is a thank you to the moviegoers who made this possible. It’s an invitation to those moviegoers who haven’t made it to a theater near them,” the MAI said in a statement.
