James Franco, who retired from acting after a string of sexual misconduct allegations, will star in Bille August’s post-war drama, World War Two I you. James Franco will star alongside Tom Hollander and Daisy Jacob, with principal filming set to take place on Ischia from September.

according to sort, I you is a coming-of-age drama set on the Italian island of Ischia in the 1950s. There, Marco, a 16-year-old fresh from his bleak Scottish boarding school, befriends American GI-turned-fisherman Nicola (played by Franco). The duo spends the hours sailing the Bay of Naples while Nicola entertains his young friend with tales of war and oceans.
“But when Marco meets the mysterious 20-year-old Caia (played by Jacob) he is smitten and when he finds out she is a concentration camp survivor he swears revenge. He soon plans to set fire to a mansion occupied by a group of uncouth German tourists in hopes of winning Caia’s affection.” The official logline reads: “Deeply tender and bittersweet, I you explores the raw beauty and tragedy of love, the age of innocence and the grim reality of war.”
James Franco will play Nicola in the upcoming drama alongside Tom Hollander as Marco’s father Edward and Daisy Jacob as Marco’s love interest Caia. Greg Latter wrote the screenplay and the film is being produced by Sean O’Kelly and Marc Bikindou and Mark Hammond of Cristaldi Pics. Jad Ben Ammar and Leo Maidenberg are also involved in the co-production.
