Coldplay has announced it will be postponing its Brazilian shows on its world tour after frontman Chris Martin fell ill with a “severe lung infection”.

On Tuesday, the British band – who are currently on their Music of the Spheres World Tour – took to social media to announce that they will be postponing their upcoming eight shows in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo after lead singer Chris Martin recently announced a ” severe lung” contracted infection.”
“It is with great regret that we have been forced to postpone our upcoming shows in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo to early 2023,” the band wrote on Instagram. “Due to severe pneumonia, Chris was given strict medical orders to rest for the next three weeks.”
The statement continued, “To everyone in Brazil who has been looking forward to these concerts, we sincerely apologize for any disappointment and inconvenience, and we are so grateful for your understanding at this challenging time as we prioritize Chris’ health have to. Please keep your tickets as they will be valid for the new catch-up dates.” In their statement, Coldplay noted that ticket refunds will also be possible.
The band added, “We are optimistic that Chris will return to good health following the mandatory medical break and look forward to resuming touring as soon as possible,” they concluded. “To all those affected, please accept our sincere apologies and, as always, thank you for your love and support.”
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Coldplay was originally scheduled to perform at Estadio Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro from October 11-12 before playing six nights at Allianz Parque in São Paulo from October 15-22. So far, the band said they are trying to “fix the new dates” and will provide more information in the future.
The band will also perform 10 concerts in Buenos Aires, Argentina from October 22nd to November 8th. This includes a worldwide live stream of their concert at the River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires on October 28th. Tickets for the postponed dates will be honored with refunds at point of purchase.
